Why The 1% Chance?
When I got the first printed copies of the book, a few weeks ago, we went to our friends house to co-regulate (hang out) and show off the book. Their 10-year-old, without any context for what the book was, exclaimed “1%?! That’s not much of a chance!!”. I thought, from the mouth of babes…
Admittedly, 1% is a low probability, but in the world of MND / ALS, a 1% chance is much more than anyone else will give you.
From the book, “The standard pathway had a 100% chance of death. In my mind, to knowingly follow a path to failure didn’t make any sense. If I could do anything to give myself even a 1% chance of being here long enough to see my daughter grow up, I had to do it. I had nothing to lose.”
